The Shona Language

On the 24th of May a talk show about the Shona language was hosted by the talk show queen of Zimbabwe Mrs Rebecca Chisamba who is famously known for her talk show "Amai Chisamba Show".The main topic of the show was "The Shona language".The notable guests that were present were Mr Peter Banga who is a lecturer at Harare Polytechnic college,Dr Muidzo Mawesera who is a lecturer at the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) who is also a writer in Shona and there was Dr Sekai Nzenza who is a newspaper columnist. There was also a very important visitor who is a veteran Shona book writer who has been writing for decades named Mr  Aaron Chiunduramoyo. There was also a  lot of guests who were from the examinations council and other Shona poets.
The topic was much of a big topic and the only enemy that was against people was time.A lot of people had a lot to say but only a few were privileged enough to say something.People expressed a lot of sympathy on the way the Shona language and culture is being eroded and diluted by other languages. The Shona language was said to be of late being over shadowed by the english language. The main reason why english is being chosen over Shona was that the Zimbabweans had spent a long time under western emperial rule and that the people are still under neo-colonialism.There is a lot to be done to free the people from colonialism and another speaker said that the struggle is still on to totally free the people.
Even in churches it is said that the preachers are preaching in the western language as if no one cannot understand the venecular.Jobs are also said to have been in search of people who are really good in the english language. There were also writers who write in the mother language who also said that their work is not being appreciated by the people while other western languages are selling like hot cakes. The local music that is in Shona is also not being appreciated as the international music that is being sung in the english language. There was also a teenage student who also mentioned that there is now a culture of speaking in english and that the english language is now the language that is considered the cool language to interact in.There is a  saying that says"english was made in Europe, developed in America and is being used in Africa".
There was one speaker who mentioned that the past is being lost and that is called past to dust. The past that was being mentioned was the culture of the black people and an example was made that the Chinese are developing because they respect their culture and language and it was said that Zimbabwe is not developing because there is no respect for culture and language and until Zimbabweans figure that out there will still be lost and under developed. To sum it all up the discussion was closed with strong words that said that "There was a fight for independence, now there is a fight for economy, the next will be the fight for language".

Miracle on Sunday

There are a lot of ways in which the police find out information in-order to close a case or find out about any crime. The traditional way of finding out information in the neighborhood was through snitches, tip off's,grapevine, gossip, investigation to name but a few.The most important thing about incriminating evidence is that it has to be reliable or from the horses mouth through a testimony.
This then comes to the unveiling of the new way to find out information which is from a church testimony. In Old Cannan,Highfield on Sunday the 6th of May an older woman went to the pulpit to tell the whole church what the good Lord had done for her (name of church and woman withheld). She said the local Water Supply Council Authority  had visited her homestead and they had shut down her water supply leaving her residence dry of water because of failing to pay up her bills at time. She said that she knelt down to pray and after a good few minutes of prayer a miracle happened, water abruptly started gushing out the water-tapes.Once again the good Lord had provided for the needy, the thirsty had been parched of their thirst. In the meanwhile in the congregation there was a council officer who works for the local Water Supply Council Authority (name withheld) who then felt the urge to investigate this miracle and he did that the first thing on the following Monday morning. When he reached the miracle scene,he figured out that the miracle did not happen the way it was said to have.He figured out that it was the hand of the lady that had miraculously took a pinchers and miraculously un-tightened the tapes that the Council had  tightened and then there we have our miracle. This meant that the lady had illegally re-opened her water supply.By  this act she had to be detained into police custody to wait for further trial and lawful action.
Why did she even turn it into a testimony?

Zimbabwe Daily News Conference Meeting

On the 2nd of March 2012 Daily News hosted a conference that invited high profile political guests. The notable guests who were also speakers were Dr Simba Makoni who is the Mavambo project president (political party),Mr Goodson Nguni Zanu PF activist (political RULING party),Prof John Makumbe who is a political analyst turned MDC supporter (political party) and Prof Lovemore Madhuku who is a political analyst.
The topic of the conference was Media Freedom,Democracy and Development and each of the guest speakers were expected to  say what they thought of the media in Zimbabwe.First up on the panel was Dr Simba Makoni and he said that freedom and development is a state of mind and one has to be developed and free in mind for one to be actually free.He said that the development of a country  is also the development of media meaning the development of the media is also the development of a country. He said that there are many laws that are hindering the progress of media such as Aippa (Access to information privacy act) and for one to understand media in Zimbabwe one has to understand law first. He also said that it is a pity that here in Zimbabwe we have had 32yrs of independence but the laws that are operating in Zimbabwe are were formed in Rhodesia by minority rule.I give Dr Simba Makoni credit for this presentation because it was on point and no addition or subtractions were needed.
Mr Goodson Nguni then followed and though his speach was not that long he brought up very interesting points. He said that the media always has to have two sides of the story and not rely on only one side of the story. He brought up many political scandals that involve the Prime Minister and he said that media has to expose all those scandals. He said that a lot of facts are not being said in the media yet they have to be addressed. He said that the media has to first investigate on any news before feeding people ill-information.Though  Mr Goodson Nguni's presentation started well he did not say anything that was on the agenda. It seemed as if he had his own agenda to address.
Prof John Makumbe then followed and he said that the role of the media is to expose Tyranny and dictatorship. He said that the media has to express the people's demands  and when there is a bad situation the media's job is to show the people that there is an ulternative for all the suffering.Analysing his speech also one can come to the conclusion that he did not even address the agenda but had his own agenda to address. He was very emotional and it seemed as if he was trying to use the podium to address a certain person and not the agenda.(i used to like him when he was still an analyst).
Prof Lovemore Madhuku was the last speaker and he was very on point and he was trying not to be political as possible. He said that the Zimbabwean media exegerates its influence by trying to brainwash people. He said that media is a platform of expression and freedom and the media should not take basis on political parties but on political views.
After all has been said and done, all these political figures and analysts can never agree but they agreed on one thing and that is the media in Zimbabwe is not free, democratic and developed.
