Zimbabwe Student Union disappoint

Zimbabwe Congress of Student Union (ZICOSU)  held a press conference at Harare Polytechnic College on the 15th of June and it was aimed at advocating for the Zimbabwe Presidential elections to be held this year.
The members of the union present were the vice president Cephas Matendere,Secretary general Tatenda Chakanyuka,Deputy secretary empoerment Onesimo Shoko,Organising Secretary Tichatora Mumbinjo,Committee member Tonderai Chidava and also another committee member Ishmael Nyengera. They urged the students to rally behind the holding of elections as soon as possible and they said that the Zimbabwean elections have to be an internal affair not affiliated by any other outsider or country and this was incompatible with the previous SADC meeting that said that elections should be held in the next 12 months after the making of a new constitution. They said that constitution or no constitution elections should be held as soon as possible because the (GNU) Government of National Unity has been long expired. They said that the students should shun political violence in the conduct of elections.
On the other hand the holding of elections this year cannot be done because of many reasons such as the lack of funding since the government did not budget any money money for elections this year because for elections to occur there has to be money present. There are also a lot of programs that the government have in the pipeline such as the increase of the civil servant's salaries, census to but a few and there can be no way another program can be added on that big load of the government. There is also no guarantee that there would be no bloodshed on these elections and as a mater of fact these elections might promise to be a more bloodier election than  the last ones.

There was also another issue that these so called students representers claim to be representing the students and yet the holding of elections this year does not serve the interests  of the students. There are more pressing issues that have to be looked at and the so called student representatives are putting all their energy in political issues than do their jobs. The press conference was not even relevant to the students who had expected much more better from the Union. There was also a statement that came from one of the Union members that they are in support of the president and the ruling party and that is what we all as students have to do,this statement thereby caused uproar in the conference because someone who represents a spectrum of students should not be politically affiliated because that does not serve the needs and wants of the whole students because all students are not of the same party and they should not be because they deserve freedom of expression and political party.
